I first performed at Etchinghill Golf Club many years ago when I got a chance call from the event’s organiser there, the lovely Debbie Francis, to entertain at the members annual Christmas Party. Well since then I have returned many times and gotten to know the excellent team that work there very well.
This particular occasion was a last minute booking from the delightful Emma who works at Hayne Barn House just down the road from Etchinghill in Saltwood. I happened to be there performing at a wedding reception, the evening slot, so bridging the gap between the end of the wedding breakfast and speeches and the start of the evening party.
Emma mentioned that her brother was getting married a few weeks later and would I be able to come along in a similar time slot to perform close up magic at the wedding, which was to be held at Etchinghill Golf Club.
Fortunately, my afternoon booking that day at Buxted Park Hotel in East Sussex finished just in time for me to hot foot it across the counties to get to Etchinghill Golf Club in time for the evening wedding magic slot for Emma’s brother.
And I am extremely glad that I did make it because this was a crowd that need no warming up… their immediate response to the magic was not just enthusiastic but electric. This means, as a performer, you hit the ground running and it puts you in the perfect position of having an audience that just want more and love it!
